Project Name: LOST IN PLAY 2:THE BOUNDLESS BANQUET · A PARTICIPATORY ART PROJECT Date: April 28 – May 7, 2019 Location: Shanghai East Bank · Minsheng Art Wharf Area: 10,000㎡ Presented by: MARIE DALGAR Curatorial & Execution Team: JV communication "LOST IN PLAY 2" can be viewed as an artistic "event" in its entirety. The exhibition creates a "hyper-everyday experience rooted in the ordinary," seeking to disrupt the original context of the space and establish a new one. "LOST IN PLAY 2" took place in a nearly 10,000-square-meter former granary at the Shanghai East Bank · Minsheng Art Wharf. On one hand, the architectural space was largely left untouched, preserving the historical essence of the building; on the other, the artists integrated its history into the narrative, drawing inspiration from its structure, form, and long-lost functionality. As a result, visitors’ emotions were enriched by a dual layering of personal experience and the grand narrative of history. Immersed in the exhibition, they could also glimpse the majestic Huangpu River to the north and the panoramic view of the Minsheng Art Wharf, intensifying the interplay of time and space and further heightening their perceptual engagement. The project brought together 4 cross-disciplinary curators and 16 international artists in collaboration, with 70 dancers and theater performers channeling energy and emotion, supported by over 300 staff members across all aspects. After a 16-month creative cycle, this artistic experience existed for only 10 days in Shanghai. Through 40 hours of artistic expression, it left countless memories and emotions in the lives of more than 5,000 visitors. "LOST IN PLAY 2: The Boundless Banquet" invited each participant to step outside the rhythms of everyday life and, within an open narrative and through bodily engagement, to compose a story uniquely their own. Here, art once again made audiences vividly feel a boundless and distant universe, resonant and alive.
