Lost for over 20 years! For the first time ever, see the outtakes from the very first unaired test pilot for REEL WILD CINEMA, directed by Frank Henenlotter (BASKET CASE, FRANKENHOOKER) and starring comedienne Sandra Bernhard, legendary exotica music maestro Korla Pandit, and... David Carradine?! Something Weird Video head honcho, Mike Vraney, partnered with Jimmy Maslon and Marty Sokol in 1994 to form Mondo A Go-Go Productions. Their grand plan was to make a tv show featuring wacky film clips from the jaw-dropping SW archive, featuring a cast of crazy characters from the wonderful world of exploitation cinema. USA Network got onboard and recruited Sandra Bernhard to host. And voila! It was REEL WILD CINEMA! Before the USA Network would even approve the show, a test pilot needed to be made. Exploitation director and resident SW film expert Frank Henenlotter came in to helm the project, and oddly, Korla Pandit asked to play keyboard accompaniment (who at this point was old as dirt and a shadow of his former hypnotically scintillating self) and, get this, David Carradine to be Sandra's guests! The whole thing was, well bizarre to say the least. What you will see are outtakes of the bumpers that would have been in between the edited film clips. Out of context they are truly weird. Especially Sandra singing the "Moon Doll" theme from Doris Wishman's low-budget masterpiece NUDE ON THE MOON. Frank doesn't remember many details from the day of the shoot but did recall that while Sandra was interviewing Carradine, at some strange moment, he began eating a page of the script. Mike also said that Carradine wouldn't come out of the dressing room for what seemed to be hours because he was fixing his "hair" (or lack of for that matter). Frank also pointed out that a drag queen named Jackie Beat makes a brief appearance for a dreadfully unfunny sequence. All the producers were at the shoot, including Mike Vraney who sat cross-legged on the floor in the corner chain smoking while he and Frank rolled their eyes, shook their heads, and just shrugged as the action played out. And apparently, one of the producers (who will remain nameless) seemed to think this was the greatest event in entertainment history. So prepare to be perplexed and amazed by this extremely rare footage! This material belongs to Something Weird Video and the USA Network. Do not post on your own YouTube Channel!
