Today we are trail running through an ecological island that provides safe haven for a range of New Zealand's most endangered species. The rugged Over the Mountain Track enables us to take in some amazing views at the Pukeatua and Maungatautari peaks via the Te Raki and Te Tonga Tracks. After stopping for a cup of coffee at the cafe, the gravel all-weather Wairere Traverse provides a quicker but no less steep return back to the car.
