This orchestrion was located around Erfurt in the late 1920s. It is the only existing example of it in the world. For the spring convention 1926, the Popper company introduced an orchestrion going by the name 'Ohio' (that name was presumably chosen to market it to an American audience). The instrumentation consists of 27 violin-, flute- and saxophone-pipes, 12 cello pipes and, as a special instrument, the flex-a-tone. Located on the far back on the roof of the orchestrion the flex-a-tone is a percussion instrument consisting of a piece of metal that is hit repeatedly by a beater and bent to change the pitch. The metal is connected to a string, which in return is connected to a bar that is lowered or raised according to the note that is playing.
