In this episode of the Markswebb UX Problems Guide, we continue exploring Class 3 — situations where users are forced to perform too many actions. Subclass 3.4 focuses on cases where unnecessary actions are required to see results or receive feedback from the service. This UX problem occurs when users complete an action and expect an automatic response from the system — such as an updated balance, a confirmation message, or visible progress — but the service fails to react. Instead, users are forced to refresh the screen, repeat steps, or re-enter data to confirm whether their action was successful. Based on Markswebb’s research, these issues commonly appear in registration flows, financial operations, and multi-step forms. Missing or delayed feedback increases uncertainty, undermines trust, and often leads users to abandon tasks altogether. We illustrate this problem using an example from the Robinhood app. During registration, a user pauses the process to retrieve their Social Security Number. After returning just a few minutes later, all previously entered data is lost, forcing the user to re-enter information from scratch. This unnecessary repetition significantly increases effort and frustration. In contrast, DKB demonstrates a best practice. After collecting personal data, the service allows users to create a login, clearly informs them that progress is saved, and enables them to pause and resume the process for up to six months. This predictable behavior reduces anxiety and improves completion rates. The video concludes with practical recommendations: providing immediate automated feedback after actions, showing clear confirmation states, allowing users to save progress and resume later, and keeping system status visible and up to date at all times.
