The formula for calculating the blood volume is: Blood volume= plasma/1-hematocrit Plasma volume is calculated tentatively by measuring the body weight. Total body water is 60% of the body weight. Intracellular fluid is 40% of the body weight. Extracellular fluid is 20% of the body weight. Of this 20%, one fourth is the intravascular fluid. Plasma volume is approximately 60%, and PCV is around 35-40%. Plasma volume is calculated tentatively by this method. Then blood volume is calculated by the above formula.
