Understanding the Connection Between Adoption and Trauma The Evan P. Donaldson Adoption Institute estimates 100 million Americans are touched in some way by adoption. That is 1 in every 6 people. Adopted individuals and their families are more likely to utilize mental health services than the general population. However, mental health professionals typically do not receive adoption related training. This workshop will address adoption and trauma in light of new research about how the brain develops and adapts to its environment.
