On one occasion in Port Moresby we heard of a feast and celebration taking place in the coastal village of Tubusereia, which is about 20 kms by road, south east of Moresby. On this particular weekend. colleague, Richard Pearse and some students and I, travelled there by land rover and we were offered accommodation in a newly completed teacher’s house Tubusereia is built almost entirely out over the water with some houses and the village church on the foreshore. Preparations for the feast began early in the morning with the women preparing yam and taro and pigs to be cooked in the traditional pit roast manner. Celebrations began with a parade of bananas, There was much singing and dancing, fun and frivolity. Body adornments and decorations consisted of foliage, and flowers, and feathers and plumes. The weekend was completed by witnessing a beautiful tropical sunset.....
