When completed, the Kickapoo Rail Trail will run from Danville to Urbana in Illinois. Currently, the trail exists in three sections. The eastern terminus to Oakwood, a short section in Ogden and St. Joseph to Urbana. The corridor was originally established for rail traffic in 1869, including the Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Western Railway. Later, it was operated by CSX. It is hoped that the trail will extend for 24.5 miles connecting the two. At this time, there is still a lot of work to be done. Construction is reported to begin in 2026. It took me almost a year and a half from the time I did the first section until I was able to return and finish the two western sections. This is most evidenced by the change in seasons. The Ogden section was done in late November and the Saint Joseph to Urbana section was late December. This video covers the trail in the town of Ogden, and then from Saint Joseph to Urbana. Although I hiked both ways through Ogden, for some reason I only recorded the walk heading east. For that reason, the video in that section is reversed from the rest of the trail.
