The University of Calgary Recovery Community (UCRC) is an inclusive, peer-driven, all-pathway addiction recovery campus initiative to support individuals with addiction and mental health challenges through a recovery-oriented system of care. We define recovery as anyone taking steps to engage in a healthier relationship to substances and behaviours by engaging in pathways such as moderation, harm reduction, AA, 12-step, abstinence, etc. Activities at the UCalgary Recovery Community include ally training, peer support, social events, and anti-stigma initiatives. Catalyzed from lived experience of an academic in recovery, UCRC is the first collegiate recovery program in North America to take a full campus community approach and include faculty and staff, as well as students. It is the model that UCalgary is using to lead the growth of campus recovery programs province-wide. Learn more, find support or get involved: ucalgary.ca/recovery
