Meet Fred. Fred is a Rottweiler with some reactive issues. The biggest trigger to his reactive behaviour towards dogs on the leash is partly down to confusion (concerned as to why his owner is nervous) and because of frustration of not being able to meet dogs. Fred was sociable once upon a time, he had dog friends that he played with and went everywhere but one bad incident led to this ( this is why I sad dog parks are a terrible idea for socialising). An Engkish Bull Terrier and Fred were involved in a scuffle that left Freds owner shaken and nervous as a result she lost confidence in the ability to handle Fred. This lead to Fred no longer allowed to meet dogs. As the Reactiveness grew so did the owners fears and this made for a vicious cycle. Now underneath all of this Fred is a lovely dog and so is the owner. The owner just wanted to be able to enjoy taking Fred out like she use to before the incident. I have never seen a dog that is so loved ( he has his own bedroom). Because Fred had social skills once upon a time we just needed to unlock that side of him again. The video below is our first ever dealings with Fred and what a loveable rouge he really is. It's no secret I have a soft spot for Rottweilers so helping Fred and his owner was and will be a pleasure in the weeks to follow. This job had it all; hat stealing (not shown in the video) Foxes and Horses and it was highly entertaining and enjoyable. Fred done amazing and I look forward to working with them again next month. When we can put Fred in an off lead environment with a pack of dogs and also to see just how far he has come. So pop the kettle on, get out the biscuits and sit back and watch Fred in action.
