During his visit, Kim also looked over the third Choe Hyon-class destroyer being built at the shipyard, which has a targeted completion date of October 10th, the anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea. "Since its naval power significantly lags behind that of South Korea and the U.S., such aforementioned plans may be part of an effort to boost its nuclear-capable naval forces." The "Choe Hyon" is the regime's first newly-built operational 5,000-ton destroyer, and was launched on April 25th last year. This was followed by the launch of a second in the class, the "Kang Kon," though it partially capsized during an initial launch attempt.
