(5 Mar 2022) Mourners gathered Saturday in the Pakistani city of Peshawar to bury family members killed in an attack on a Shi'ite mosque a day earlier. The assault, claimed by an Islamic State affiliate, killed 57 people and wounded nearly 200. "How long will our people compete against terrorism?" asked Aamir Sehti, who lost three family members in the attack. Police said the violence started when an armed attacker opened fire on police outside the mosque in Peshawar's old city. One policeman was killed in the gunfight, and another police officer was wounded. The attacker then ran inside the mosque and detonated a suicide vest. Islamic State said in a statement the lone suicide bomber was from neighbouring Afghanistan. Afghanistan's Taliban, who have been fighting IS, condemned the attack.
