Earl Lewis and the Channels (first tenor Cecil Wiley, second tenor Wesley Neal, and baritone-bass Joe Odom) perform an acapella rendition of the group’s 1957 release, “That’s My Desire” at a United in Group Harmony Association event in 1980. This show took place at the St. Joseph’s Church Auditorium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Wiley, who died in 1990, and Odom, who died in 1994, also sang with Dino and the Heartspinners. Neal, who died in 1992, also performed with the Chords in the 1980s. The original Channels were familiar with “That’s My Desire”, written in 1931 by Helmy Kresa and Carroll Loveday, from Frankie Laine’s 1947 hit version. Selected by Gone label owner George Goldner and arranged by Richard Barrett, who played piano on the recording, the tune was completed in just three takes. The final seconds of this performance were missing from the original source tape.
