Snapchat Hacked, Raises Security Concerns

The popular messaging app Snapchat has been hacked, and the security breach has some users in the mountains concerned.A hacker posted the user names and phone numbers of 4.6 million people online. Snapchat allows users to send images that disappear within 10 seconds.It's a neat app, says James Patterson of Hayesville. But with the recent security scare with it, it's worthless at this point, for someone to get your information off of it. Local tech consultant Francie Black says the breach could have been much worse. She says phone numbers alone, aren't a major worry. We had phone books right? We used to post our numbers all the time, Black explains. So it's not as critical as debit pins and credit cards numbers and things like that. The hacker told a tech blog the intention was to draw public attention to Snapchat's vulnerability. Black says the app has been a huge success among 18-29 year olds, and isn't likely to concern most of those users.That particular age bracket doesn't care too much about security, she says. They're like, my security's out there. I don't really care. Some say it's risk that comes with the territory.It's part of it, says Snapchat user Talor Sayles.
