Marche nuptiale 00:00 Trois pièces Prélude 08:00 Andante 10:45 Allegretto 13:26 Scherzando 18:35 Allegro con fuoco 20:42 Bart Jacobs, Forrest-organ (1873) Church of St. Stefanus - Ghent (BE) Recording: Hans Van Daele (June 20211) August De Boeck (1865-1937) studied organ at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under Alphonse Mailly, whose assistant he became until 1902. He became an organist at various churches in Belgian villages. His academic career continued in 1907 as professor of harmony at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp (1909–1920) and the Brussels Conservatory, and as director of the Conservatory of Mechelen (1921–1930). In 1930 August De Boeck retired to his birthplace, Merchtem. He wrote about 400 compositions including vocal work, opera's, religious pieces, instrumental compositions. He was also famous for his brilliant improvisations on organ. This might be the reason why he only wrote six compositions, all of them around 1900, for his instrument: the Scherzando, the Marche Nuptiale, the Trois Pièces and the Allegro con fuoco. Especially the latter piece, which undeniably shows traces of César Franck, demonstrates the powerful and personal temperament of De Boeck.
