From TrekWorks Welcome, This video segment features a 5 part build up with LED lighting, of the Round 2 Models Romulan Bird of Prey. This newly released model kit comes in either the Collectable Tin Box version or the standard boxed one. The Tin boxed version is around $20 more than the standard otherwise the plastic inside and decals are identical. Round 2 has added some extra parts with this new release which were not included in any of the previous AMT BOP kits. As shown on the box cover, you now get the plasma weapon emitter and clear engine nacelle caps. Its an effort to make the model look a little closer to the studio model seen in TOS Trek episodes. The model itself is unchanged from previous ones but it now includes the updated pedestal ball and socket display stand which is much better than the original. The Decal sheet has been updated with more markings. As shown in this video, there are not a huge amount of parts. Its very straight forward and easy to build. I decided to light this one since we now have the clear engine caps and the plasma weapon. Five, 5mm White LEDs were used for the hull lighting and one Red for the emitter. Also 1 green bulb at each engine. The model was sanded and all of the seams and gaps were filled in with 3M red spot putty filler. I prefer this as it goes on very smooth and dries quickly. Its also very easy to sand out. The model was painted with a base coat of metallic gun metal grey and then cleared with 3 coats. The decals went on very smoothly and a final coat of clear was applied on top of those. The model was then mounted on a custom display box with switches and lighting which highlight the bird decal on the bottom. We rate this model kit as a 9 out of 10. its not accurate to the film version, but its close enough for most. But, it is just plain fun to build and is very reasonably priced and available. As shown here, with a little extra work, it can be built into a nice display piece For more builds and reviews videos, check out TrekWorks main channel right here on You Tube. Coming soon we will have a video demo of how to build the custom display boxes used on many of our builds. See you there!
