Fantasy (tar) - Aram Nikoghosyan - Ֆանտազիա (թառ) - Արամ Նիկողոսյան

Aram Vardani Nikoghosyan was born on September 30, 1922, in Alexandropol. On the advice of the ashugh Sheram, he chose the tar as his instrument and took his first steps under the supervision of his father, Vardan Nikoghosyan, a devoted tar player. He studied for two years at the music school in his hometown, where he was taught by composers Daniel Ghazaryan, Vahan Umr-Shat, and musicologist Mushegh Aghayan. In 1937, his family moved to Yerevan, where he joined the folk instrument ensemble of the Palace of Pioneers and Schoolchildren, under the direction of Mikael Chaghalyan. In 1938, he became the conductor of the folk instrument ensemble of the “Arabkir” artel. He later led the instrumental group of the Leninakan State Song and Dance Ensemble for several years. From 1944 to 1992, he was a member of the Armenian Radio Folk Instrument Ensemble. With this ensemble, he participated in the Second Decade of Armenian Art and Literature held in Moscow in 1956. Nikoghosyan also led folk ensembles at various institutions, including Nor Kharberd, the Silk Factory of the S. Shahumyan District, the Association of the Blind, and the Trade House. He taught at the Aksel Bakunts Club-Library Technical School in Yerevan. He composed a number of songs, including Mother’s Love, I Saw a Dream, and Passing World (lyrics by Eghishe Charents), as well as the orchestral work Working Suite. In 1965, he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Armenian SSR. Nikoghosyan recorded numerous works and left nearly 60 recordings in the archives of the national radio. He passed away in Yerevan on September 30, 1993.
