After weeks of watching the temperatures and waiting for that final freeze, we are officially frost free in Zone 9a — and that means it’s time to wake the garden up. In today’s video, I start by cleaning my Triton fountain, giving it a proper reset after winter. Using simple Dawn dish soap and a soft brush, I scrub away algae, mineral buildup, and debris so the water can run clear again. There’s something symbolic about that first fountain cleaning of the season — washing away winter and welcoming the growing months ahead. When the water starts flowing again, it feels like the whole garden breathes. After the fountain refresh, we take a slow stroll through the early spring garden to see what’s emerging now that frost season has officially passed here in Mobile, Alabama. The bulbs are putting on their first show of the year: • Elegant snowflakes (Leucojum) nodding in the breeze • Cheerful daffodils lighting up the beds • Fragrant paperwhites still lingering • Delicate anemones adding soft movement and color This is that in-between season — not quite full spring, but no longer winter. The roses are waking, the perennials are pushing fresh growth, and the garden feels full of promise. If you garden in the South, you know how big of a milestone that frost-free date is. Everything changes after that. Thanks for walking the garden with me. 🌿💧 #Zone9a #MobileAlabama #CottageGarden #GardenVlog #FountainCleaning #SpringBulbs #FrostFree
