As one of the contributing speakers at Chambers' 2025 Business & Property Court Conference, Trinity Business & Property barrister, David Comb, delivered a talk entitled: ‘Crypto Assets: First Principles and Case Law Update’. Bitcoin and other crypto currencies now represent trillions of dollars in the Worldwide economy and are an increasingly common class of assets for corporate investors. Financial Conduct Authority research has indicated that crypto ownership is currently 12% among the general public and that this ownership typically forms part of a wider investment strategy and alternative to shares. A wide range of crypto assets are therefore increasingly becoming part of the litigation landscape. With reference to relevant case law, David’s talk highlights three key considerations relating crypto assets for dispute resolution lawyers: 1. Crypto as personal property 2.
