A New Era at RBII: An Exclusive Sit-Down with Newest Red Bull New York II Head Coach Dominik Wohlert

It's a new era at Red Bull New York II as 32-year-old Dominik Wohlert has been named head coach of the club. Wohlert is a former soccer player who retired at the age of 19 to pursue a post-playing career. A native of Heidelberg, Germany, an hour outside of Frankfurt, Wohlert got his start as a scout at Hertha Berlin, where he was an academy player. After eight years as a Chief Analyst, Wohlert was promoted to assistant manager in 2021 under the then-head coach, Pal Dardai. In January of 2022, Wohlert decided to move to New York and accept a job under Gerhard Struber's staff as an assistant coach/video analyst. Wohelrt also worked under interim coach Troy Lesesne and Sandro Schwarz. In 2024, when Schwarz was named head coach, Wohlert was moved to the bench and helped Red Bull make MLS Cup for the first time since 2008. Following the 2025 season, Schwarz was let go, and Red Bull II head coach Michael Bradley was promoted to first-team coach. That opened up the possibility for Wohlert to jump on the opportunity to become a head coach for the first time in his career. On January 21st, 2026, Wohlert was named the fifth head coach in Red Bull New York II's history. After the team raised a trophy to end last season, Wohlert has some big shoes to fill.
