Chanyangthakhu festival || JIIJUNG Men's Folk dance New Akhegwo at M.Khel On the auspicious occasion of Chanyangthakhu, celebrated every year from 4th to 7th February, we the Apoksah extends its warmest greetings and heartfelt blessings to every household and to all the citizens of Apoksah. This sacred festival marks the beginning of a season of blessings, as we prepare ourselves for the year ahead and commence our jhum cultivation activities with renewed hope, unity, and purpose. As we embark upon these four days of age-old tradition, we pay tribute to the enduring pillars of our community, our values, customs, and collective spirit that have guided us across generations. Chanyangthakhu remains the cornerstone of our cultural heritage, with each day bearing its own distinct significance and meaning. Day One-Miimtsangdah: On the first day of Chanyangthakhu, villagers slaughter meat in abundance, celebrate the sanctity of marriage, and reaffirm the strength of family bonds. On this day, womenfolk form groups of four friends known as "khanzhüp" who sleep together repair their bamboo bed constructed above the kitchen hearth symbolizing unity, warmth, and togetherness. Day Two- Khu Mung: The second day is marked by a common feast for all villagers, followed by "Jüjung" a vibrant cultural practice in which one khel/village cultural troupe travels through all khels and villages of the Apoksah Range, dancing and invoking blessings upon the people and the land. Day Three- Khang Tha: On the third day, the men folk of the village engage in the construction and strengthening of the khel/village morung, upholding its role as a centre of learning, discipline, and communal life. Day Four- Chanyang Tha: The festival concludes with all male villagers collectively clearing forest paths leading to dlexignated areas for new jhum fields, symbolising preparedness, cooperation, and hope for a productive year. May the spirit of Chanyangthakhu usher in abundant blessings, a fruitful year, peace in our homes, strength in our morungs, and a bountiful harvest in our fields. May it grant long life to both young and old, and may we continue to celebrate this sacred festival with joy, reverence. and deep respect for our cherished traditions. Wishing a blessed and joyous Chanyangthakhu to all the citizens of Apoksah.
