An encounter incident has been reported from Vijayapura district, where police shot a known rowdy sheeter during an arrest attempt. The accused, identified as Yunus Iqlaas Patel (35), allegedly attacked police officers when they tried to arrest him near Rampur village in Sindagi taluk. According to reports, Yunus Patel had recently robbed a man at knife point near Gandhi Chowk in Vijayapura, escaping with ₹25,000 and a scooter. When police traced him to Rampur, he reportedly attacked Inspector Pradeep Talakeri and two constables. In self-defence, the inspector fired a warning shot, followed by a bullet to the accused’s leg after he continued attacking. Yunus Patel was taken to Sindagi hospital and later shifted to Vijayapura district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The accused had 12 criminal cases against him, including two murder and one attempted murder charge. Vijayapura SP Laxman Nimbargi has intensified action against habitual offenders in recent months, with multiple police encounters reported in the region.
