After a 5 year hiatus from half Ironmans, we are back!!! I feel so incredibly blessed to have done three 70.3 Ironmans with my father and now one with my boyfriend (his 1st). I feel that getting older has greatly improved my mental strength and also has helped me stay more disciplined when it comes to training. Trevor and I simultaneously trained for the Chicago Marathon and this 70.3 Ironman for 16+ weeks. The hardest part of this was fitting everything in while working full time, trying to have a little bit of a social life and also recovering. The main objective was to follow a marathon training program with the additions of cycling and swimming. For me, swimming was the least worried about, I swam my whole life however Trevor has never swam before. The bike is the HARDEST and my least favorite part. I rode a lot in Central Park but I also did a lot of rides on my indoor trainer (which I hate). I definitely did not bike and swim as much as I probably should have but I knew going into training for two races within 6 days of another wasn't going to be easy. With all that to be said, I walked away with a 16 minute PR and felt GREAT. 6 days before this race, I had a 16 minute PR in Chicago.. I'm so incredibly proud of both outcomes and I'm even more excited to actually just training for one race at a time to see what I'm really capable of! I feel SO blessed to be able to do these races with my Dad, I know not everyone has the opportunity to do something like this with their father. He trained So hard for this race and I'm so proud of him. As for Trevor, he signed up on a whim with me. He's never swam before, it was a rough few weeks of learning (and us arguing) but he CRUSHED the swim. And to no surprise, he crushed the entire race. Now we just need him to actually train for it and get him a new bike lol! Which 70.3 Ironman should I do in 2025? I will NOT be doing a Full Ironman in 2025, we will definitely wait a year lol.
