Dreamtree plays with imagery associated with creation stories from various cultures and of course the central role often given to trees in these stories. The narrative, as it unfolds, owes more perhaps to the Norse legend of Yggdrasil than Judaeo-Christian mythology. It also borrows from the Celtic legends of dragons as the wise protectors of the four elements - Fire, Earth, Water and Air. As the story plays out, what starts as the fruit of the tree becomes the environment in which the tree resides. Like the serpent that swallows its own tail, the scene is set for the story to unfold and refold. I am also interested in the hallucinatory effect associated with yew trees and their historic recognition as portals to alternative realities.
