MPP Alabama Decriminalization Report Press Conference

On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, the Marijuana Policy Project held a press conference recognizing the 50-year anniversary of the report issued by the Shafer Commission. The Shafer Commission investigated the effects that cannabis use had on specific communities and found that small amounts of cannabis do not harm society and should not result in criminalization or jail time. Despite the Shafer Commission’s 1972 recommendations, there remains 19 states where a person may lose their freedom for simple possession of cannabis.
