This is our full Taiko drumming performance in Japan—a routine we practiced and performed together during our time with Wadaiko Masaya in Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture. Taiko is more than rhythm. It is movement, discipline, breath, and spirit. Guided by professional instructors, we learned how traditional Japanese taiko drumming blends power and precision—every strike intentional, every pause meaningful. Before performing, we were immersed in the history of taiko, learning how these massive drums are handcrafted—sometimes from 500-year-old wood—and why they have been central to festivals, ceremonies, and storytelling across Japan for centuries. Wearing traditional happi garments commonly seen at Japanese festivals, we stepped behind the drums and performed the full routine we had trained for. It was bold. Grounding. Unforgettable.
