I think we both had the best sleep of the entire camino... so far! The hotel/albergue that we stayed at was perfect. We took off as it got light and watched the sunrise and we set out on our walk for the day. Baptiste was right by our side as we departed from the town and we walked with him for most of the day. This was the true Meseta, dry, plains, wheat fields, farming everywhere. It was pretty desolate, we passed through a couple of small towns, the first was a guy who was obsessed with rock and had records and guitars all over his cafe. I had a cake of St James, torta de Santiago, then we pressed on. We enjoyed our time with Baptiste listening to old western soundtracks it felt like we were the 3 musketeer pilgrims trekking across the desert. The next town we came into was amazing, we stopped for lunch with Baptiste and parted ways from there, we thought we missed out with the most bougie spa they had, you get to go through a cycle of all these different spa treatments we later heard, but we aimed for the truly authentic experience that Clare had told us about. The ancient ruins of San Anton. We made it there early afternoon where a drunken, and extremely kind man named Antonino was the hostalero. Every 30 minutes he would go snag a cold beer from the vending machine. He welcomed us each with a 30 second hug that really made you pause and think. We were the first 2 to stay at the ruins or the still running albergue. There were 5 bunks available for 10 pilgrims, and we got the first 2 beds. A biker from Mexico named Carlos, who was also a Doctor, Marcos from Brazil, Jane and John from Denmark, and then my Mom and I. We had the best afternoon, we played multiple rounds of Poker Chess, walked around the ruins and relaxed, took a siesta, flew the drone, met people as they stopped by. There was a cute family of cats with brand new kittens, and I also drank my honorary Rootbeer milk from Gossners, Logan, Utah. My mom got her first free coffee she was waiting for! There was free wine as well but we passed. It should be noted there was no running water or electricity where we stayed. Antonino made an amazing dinner that was funded by our donations for dinner and the stay for the night. It was a garlic and bread soup that I really liked, Melon for dessert, plenty of bread, salad, and we were the only two that drank water, everyone else had the wine. It was an intimate dinner as we all shared the reason for why we were walking the camino and all got to know each other past the surface level. After dinner, Antonino gave us the option to sleep on a cot outside under the milkyway and the stars. I immediately jumped on it, Marcos and Carlos followed after me. It was the most special and unique night of the camino, the stars were unreal! . 16.91 miles 27.23 kilometers 922 feet elevation gain 5 hours 20 minutes .
