Wilfried Wang is co-founder of Hoidn Wang Partner in Berlin, along with Barbara Hoidn. Since 2002, O’Neil Ford Centennial Professor in Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin. Born in Hamburg, Wang studied architecture in London, and was a partner with John Southall in SW Architects (1989–95). Wang has served as founding co-editor of 9H Magazine with Nadir Tharani, as well as co-director with of the 9H Gallery with Ricky Burdett. He was the Director of the German Architecture Museum from 1995-2000. Wang’s teaching credits are extensive, as he has taught at the Polytechnic of North London (1981-84), University College London (1984-86), Harvard University (1986-2002), ETH Zürich (1994), Städelschule (1996), and the Universidad de Navarra (2001, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017). When not designing, Wang has taken on the role of author, editor, and curator of various architectural monographs and exhibitions, including on Adolf Loos Arts Council of the UK; Diener & Diener; Boris Podrecca; Hermann Czech; Herzog & de Meuron; Peter Celsing; Sigurd Lewerentz; Eileen Gray; Eric Parry; Alvaro Siza; Kyriakos Krokos; and Hans Scharoun. As co-curator of architectural exhibitions and co-editor Wang presented catalogues on the architecture of the 20th century in Austria, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, Greece, Switzerland, Spain, Finland, and Germany. He is also editor of the exhibition catalogue on Culture: City (Akademie der Künste, 2013). Curator of the exhibition DEMO:POLIS: The Right to Public Space (Akademie der Künste, 2016). Finally, Wang serves as Chairman of the Erich Schelling Architecture Foundation; adjunct member of the Federation of German Architects; foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm; member of CICA; member; and deputy director of the architecture section of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin; honorary doctorate from the Royal Technical University Stockholm; honorary member of the Portuguese Chamber of Architects.
