G20 Finance Track Meeting Side Event on addressing the Natural Catastrophe Insurance protection gap.

As part of the July G20 Finance Track meetings, the G20 Presidency in coordination with the International Association of Insurance Supervisors and World Bank Group, are hosting a side event on addressing the natural catastrophe (NatCat) insurance protection gap. There has been an alarming increase in NatCat events, such as hurricanes, typhoons, wildfires and floods. These disasters cause significant damage to infrastructure, economies and human lives. Insurance can play a significant role in managing the financial impact of NatCat. The widening insurance protection gap – the difference between total economic losses and insured losses – is thus a critical issue, particularly for emerging market and developing economies.
