*So about 60% of the footage is backfocused. Sorry about that. It's completely user error, but I'm going to blame the camera...stupid G7. I love being outside. Even when I'm not photographing it, I love to get away from it all. I think it's only natural to want to share things you love with those you love (4x using the word love...I'll try to stop), so at some point, if you also enjoy the outdoors, you're going to want to bring your family along. If this includes bringing children along, then you're going to be faced with some unique challenges along the way. It's important to anticipate these challenges so that you can give them the best experience possible. Like anything in life, having a good experience the first time you do something goes a LONG way in shaping your opinion of that activity. Memories formed as children are particularly powerful as a bad experience as a child can stick with a person for a long time. Obviously I didn't want that to happen with our children so I took several steps along the way to do everything I could to insure a successful trip. Planning for this trip with my daughter, who is 5 now, actually started several years ago with car-camping trips. We did several of these trips in order to acclimate her to just being outside. I also made sure to involve her in as much planning for the trip as possible. We selected a relatively easy location to hike to and brought along as many comforts from home as possible, including electronics. This is actually her second time backpacking (I unfortunately irreversibly deleted footage from the first) and it was extremely successful. I think if you take these tips into account when planning your backpacking trip with your kids, then you will set them up with a lifetime love (oops, 5x now) of the outdoors!!
