Communal conflict in Coastal Karnataka: Will the special taskforce be effective?

After an almost three-year lull, communal faultlines have resurfaced yet again in Coastal Karnataka. In just a month, the city of Mangaluru and the surrounding regions have been rudely shaken by three back-to-back murders. To crackdown on communal crimes and lawlessness, the Karnataka government recently set up a Special Action Force in the three sensitive districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Shivamogga. However, are the existing legal provisions to curb hate speech adequate at all? How effective will the Special Action Force be in bringing peace to the region?
