Swenglistic Underground is a non-profit entertainment group which according to its bylaws is active in international entertainment with young people for educational purposes, and is registered with the Swedish Tax Authority since 2005. Quoting Lars Jacob in 2012 on his 40 years as a cabaret director: "One of the big benefits concerning American music is how the material, which I've used poetic license in choosing for my underground stage shows over all these years, has turned hundreds of kids on, in their late teens and early twenties. That popularization of all those songs originating in the 1920s to the 1970s, the fact that they got to be appreciated by three generations of youths, should please all those composers, lyricists and publishers. It has certainly been one of the most delightful experiences in my life, though we've never made a dime on any of it. It's been fun to realize that our educational activities with young people have also ended up being such an effective promotion of so much great music and poetry, which they never would have heard of otherwise." Lyrics: [He: / She:] You were in Havana for a night. / Yeah, and what a night! Your boat was anchored in the bay / Ah, it was, and pretty deep there. In old Havana for a night. / Ah, just getting the lay of the land. Time was hanging heavy on your hand. / It did hang a little heavy. It is a custom to be gay, / In Cuba forbidden! When in Havana for a night. / That’s a custom I’m unaccustomed to. And so we met, Beneath a sky of tropic stars, / Oh, it was right after we hit the beach, if I recall. And went around To all the most attractive bars. / Bar nothing, that’s my motto! And then we found A little place to dance, Where we could face romance And hear the whisper of guitars. / And with no strings attached. You were in Havana for a night, / Yes, I think we’ve established that. And I was happy in your arms, / It was a pleasant occasion. And it was Heaven for a night. Then dawn brought the day. / As a matter of fact, it came up like thunder. Your boat left the bay. / Well, we had to leave eventually. And now - / Yes tell me now what’s on your mind! I dream: / To dream right now would be unkind. I lie beside the sea, / That’s lie to you, but lay to me. And I pretend to be Within your arms once more, / That’s not a bad proposition. And you are close to me, till the stars - / We’ll see Lose their light. / who can hold out the longest: In Havana - / Havana - Havana - / Havana - Havana ~ For a night. Oh, lay!
