A rare complication during cataract surgery, Rupture cartridge during IOL implantation.

This is something which has occurred only once to me ever and the reason was cold temperature. During low temperature the hydrophobic acrylic material gets increasingly rigid. Thus at the "Glass transition temperature" this material starts behaving like a rigid solid instead of being a supple foft material at higher temperature. This can cause failure of the IOL implantation process by inability of the rigid IOL to get folded in the injector cartridge. This video demonstrates one such scenario where the cartridge gave way and ruptured causing entrapment of the IOL. However the surgery was finished safely by switching to another fresh IOL.
