Minister says China ready to open trade markets

(3 Sep 2016) Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen on Saturday said China was "the largest trading nation" for goods and not "the least open country" for international trade and investments. Wang made the remarks in China's eastern city of Hangzhou, ahead of a two-day summit with leaders of the Group of 20 most industrialised economies. The G20 summit will start on Sunday with the main goal of finding ways to shore up sluggish global growth. Asked about how Britain's decision to leave the European Union will affect the country's business relations with China, Wang said that Chinese businesses "may hesitate to make investments in Britain" in the short term, but that he expects business relations to recover "as the dust settles".
