Roy's Peak Sunrise Hike in Wanaka New Zealand! When I knew we were going to come to New Zealand I wanted to do this hike. It is a 6 hr round trip hike. We had the great idea that we would wake up at 3am and start the hike around 4am and hopefully get there by sunrise at 7:30am. Well lucky for us we arrived at 5:30am and although I was freezing we got some incredible star photography and saw every part of the sunrise from the top. Seth went into military mode and started with a strict pace. After realizing I wouldn't make it, he taught me lots of tips about how to not use as much energy and I did a bit better. If you're going to do the hike, give yourself 1.5hrs - 3 hrs to get to the spot where we stopped in the photo, an extra 30 min if you want to go all the way to the top! Bring warm clothing, or know you wont stop hiking until the sun rises! Take lots of photos but also just sit and enjoy the fruits of your labor!! This hike is very popular and there will be tons of people up there, enjoy it with them!
