The FilmHarmonia Orchestra plays Undertale Symphonic Suite by Toby Fox (arr. Andrés Soto). Released in 2015, Undertale was billed as “the friendly RPG where nobody has to die!” The player assumes the role of a child who has fallen into a mysterious underground realm where monsters were long ago banished. Throughout the adventure, the player may choose to spare or defeat the creatures they encounter, with the storyline adapting dynamically to those choices. Undertale pays homage to classic games through its turn-based gameplay, retro-inspired art style, and synth-heavy score reminiscent of 8-bit soundtracks. Game developer Toby Fox not only created the game but also composed its expansive soundtrack—101 tracks in total, ranging from delicate to manic. As the founder and Musical Director of The FilmHarmonia Orchestra and the Musical Director of the Inner West Community Band, he has significantly fostered musical excellence. He has also led ensembles like the Macquarie University Symphony Orchestra, the Canaria Scoring Orchestra, the Wellington Players, and the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra. An accomplished reed player now exploring brass instruments, Joshua brings versatility to his music-making. He directs numerous school bands across Sydney and tutors aspiring musicians. His passion for narrative-driven music is evident in his compositions, premiered by both The FilmHarmonia Orchestra and the Inner West Community Band. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium under Dr. John Lynch and Dr. Anthony Clarke, Joshua continues to advance the Australian wind band community through his leadership and contributions.
