Can these children safely go home yet — or is there still too much risk? In this real family court clip, Judge Catherine Sala hears a detailed report from the foster-care worker about three parents, their services, and whether their children can be safely returned right now. The hearing focuses on therapy, housing stability, mental health evaluations, and the children’s emotional needs. The caseworker updates the court on: Donald – Living in a one-bedroom apartment, which is a barrier for overnight placement. He’s starting therapy, on a visitation support waitlist, and still needs to complete paperwork and follow-up calls for a full psychological evaluation. Eric – Attending weekly therapy, also on the visitation waitlist, but missed a parenting time visit after assuming it was cancelled due to illness, even though the child was cleared by a doctor. Judge Sala hears how the worker had to remind him that the agency makes the final call on cancellations. He also still needs to complete Dr. Louder’s paperwork and IQ testing. Kayleen – Currently unemployed, dealing with health issues and pregnancy, not yet in individual therapy even though the worker believes it is necessary. She and Eric are now back together, and the worker is looking for court guidance on their progression as a couple. The children’s situation: One child, JH, is on a waitlist for in-home therapy, has had his medication increased, and the therapist believes an autism or trauma assessment may be helpful. The worker asks for a court-ordered child trauma assessment to get additional services in place. Parenting time overall is going well, with parents bringing dinner and needed items, but there are ongoing concerns about how boundaries are set and how the on-again, off-again relationship between Eric and Kayleen could confuse the children. Judge Catherine Sala: Asks for more detail on how parenting time is going, especially for Eric and Kayleen. Directly asks whether returning the children today would still present a “substantial risk of harm” – and the worker answers yes, citing barriers that existed at the time of removal and issues that are still being resolved. Presses the worker to summarize compliance with the case service plan, leading to a description of “partial compliance” and a “slow but steady” process. Clarifies concerns about Kayleen’s frequent moves and changing relationships — from homelessness, to living with Eric, to a new fiancé, back out, and then back with Eric again — and why joint parenting time hasn’t resumed yet. The worker recommends: Couples counseling for Eric and Kayleen before joint parenting time is restarted A child trauma assessment for JH Updated case service plans and continued support as services get fully underway If you’re interested in real family court, child protective services, foster care cases, and how judges balance reunification with safety, this Judge Catherine Sala hearing is a powerful look inside that process. 🔔 Subscribe for more real courtroom clips, family court hearings, and legal breakdowns. 👍 Comment: At this stage, do you think the children should stay in care or go home? #JudgeCatherineSala #FamilyCourt #ChildProtection #FosterCare #CPSCase #CourtroomDrama #RealCourtFootage #Reunification #ChildWelfare
