On the evening of March 16, 1968, a private concert was held in Chembur, a suburb of Bombay in the house of mr. Indorkar, a businessman with a keen interest in music. The main artist of the evening was the wonderful Sharadchandra Arolkar of Gwalior gharana but his tabla accompanist Ravi Bellare also gave a solo during the evening. You are listening to the first part of Ravi Bellare's tabla solo which he starts with talking and demonstrating what is really meant by Peshkar, the opening variations on the basic theka in a tabla solo of the Farukabhad gharana. You will be amazed, I doubt that many have heard this kind of rhythmic freedom and mastery before. I post this today, on april 17, 2014, on Ravi's 9th death anniversary. We miss him a lot.
