In 2023, Munich Airport (MUC) in Bavaria, Germany handled 37 million passengers, an increase of 17% compared to last year and around 80% of the record level in 2019, pre-COVID. In 2023, the focus of passenger development was on traffic originating from or ending at Munich and that rose by 22 percent compared to the previous year. The number of transfer passengers also saw double-digit growth of 11 percent during 2023. Freight volumes ended the year on a positive note as well, increasing by 7% to a total of around 280,000 metric tons. Aircraft movements rose by 6% year-on-year to more than 300,000 take offs and landings, whilst seat load factor reached a record level of 81.3%, exceeding 80% for the first time since the airport opened.
