Animal Studies in the Amazon

2nd Place in the Eckerd College 2026 Winter Term Video Contest In this video, you will experience the day-to day sights and sounds that students were immersed in while studying in the Amazon through Eckerd College’s Global Education program. We were given the opportunity to travel down the Amazon River by house boat, stopping to visit local communities and explore remote trails throughout the rainforest. Learning about native flora and fauna in the most biodiverse region, we encountered and had the opportunity to interact with many different animal species, from primates to reptiles to cetaceans. Beyond all the beautiful sights, the connections formed among us on this trip will be cherished forever. This journey was life changing in more ways than one, and it is an honor to share even a small fraction of the life and beauty we were lucky enough to experience. Video by Samantha Sweet '27
