150 air conditioning units are linked together to freshen the air of the 100000m² space in the Prophet's Mosque and its courtyards. Those familiar the dryness of Medina's weather know well that the task of these AC units is not easy at all. "As for the air conditioning process, a central station has been installed 7km away from the Prophet's Mosque. It contains six AC units; each one of them provides 3,400 tons of cool air per hour. It produces cool air at six degrees Celsius, which is pumped through a tunnel from the station to the mosque's cellar where we have 150 air processing units," senior project manager at the Prophet's Mosque, Fahad Hakim said. Under the ceiling of the Prophet's Mosque, 1,700 air supply pipes are spread. They regularly play a symphony of cool air, provided by the delicate combination between the fresh air and a system that includes 7500m of pipes, transferring the air and forming an architectural design that occupies the base of the pillars. "The cold water in the conditioning station reaches the Prophet's Mosque cellar. We have 151 AC units. We treat the air with cold water that produces cool air that is pumped through the pillars' bases in the prophet's mosque. We always keep the temperature between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius because it is appropriate for all," Hakim said. The AC system in the Prophet's mosque helps the worshipers focus on their prayers. The bodies that are protected from the weather's extremes spend more time praying and meditating, and that is due to the continuous effort of an army of men and huge amounts of money.
