Echoes from Gabu : Reinterpretation of Kora classic "Cheddo".

Albert Distelbrink with a free style interpretation on the Kora of traditional song "Cheddo" (Kedo), which is about the battle in the last years of the west-African kingdom Gabu (Kaabu). This song tells the story of the last war between the Fula and the Mandingo in the interior of southern Senegal and Guinea in the 1860's, the kingdom of Gabu. The word "Cheddo" is the Fula word for Mandingo. The war is often called the "war to end war." Characteristic for this song is the rhythmic tapping against the wooden sticks by which the Kora is held (but not as much as I do!). Recorded 7-2 2026 ADM Noord Amsterdam. Kora solo by Albert Distelbrink as support act for Mansa Camio, Djembe legend, master drummer from Guinée with group.
