The Royal Blind School runs a creative art sensory afternoon within interdisciplinary learning. The lesson is for a group of children with multi disabilities and visual impairment (MDVI) from three classes. The session allows for a lot of flexibility. The session is very relaxing to begin. Young people can join the lesson in their own time. The afternoon features flute music, a singing bowl and sometimes a violin. The live music helps the pupils to focus on what’s happening all around them. The stories being told during the session include a Native American story about the arrival of the sun. Experiential elements include blocks of ice, heat pads, feather boas, yellow balloons, sheets. The afternoon is more than a PE class, or a drama class, or a music class. By combining the different disciplines, the creative arts lesson enhances the learning experience for the young people involved.
