We did it. we actually bought a bus. Join us as we fly to Christchurch in the south island of New Zealand, then travel even further south to pick up our school bus with no idea what to expect other than it’s a big long white thing with stripes and lots of seats. Seriously, we know nothing about buses. Of course we had seen pictures, knew it had a full service history and was fully road legal (as a school bus), and we knew we could trust the seller which I guess is the main thing. So off we went with a pocket full of cash and a crazy idea to convert a bus into an RV. Even when we got there, we didn’t really know what we were looking it, sure it had a lot of seats, a big motor in the back and was really nice to drive, odd but nice. Took quite a bit of getting used to sitting in front of the front wheels and wow it’s sooooo long, reversing takes on a whole new level of excitement, not to mention trying not to cut corners. Fortunately I had more than 1000kms to get the hang of it and before long was throwing it around like a rally car (just kidding, more like a small ship). The bus actually started its life in Japan, like a lot of vehicles here in New Zealand it was imported second hand but with lots of life left in it. And like my car, all the switches and stuff are in Japanese so a little guesswork is required when turning things on and off. So anyway, back to the video… A high speed 750 mile trip home, an interislander ferry across the Cook Straight and a tight squeeze in the driveway and now we can start building our buslife dream tinyhome We are Bused_As Subscribe to watch our progress as we convert a school bus into a motorhome, the good bits and not so good bits, once a week, right here in Auckland, New Zealand
