I wanted this video to be a little different and experimental. I've been watching the YouTube channel Primitive Technology and I'm always in awe as I watch the oddly satisfying building process while only listening to the sounds. I wanted this to be similar. None of my voice or bad jokes getting in the way of the peaceful and almost ASMR sounds of the creating process. You get to see my process and failures like me getting stuck on opening the cartridge. If you want more details on this video, I will list it below. 0:14 I was surprised this old and non-backlight screen took a whopping 4 AA batteries. And I remember going through so many batteries. 0:44 I chose this game because it was the cheapest I could find on Ebay. I removed the label with Goo Gone. 1:00 I didn't have the correct screwdriver but I was able to spin the screw with what I did have. 2:10 I had a hard time figuring out how I would cram so much in such a small space. I decided to use through-hole components but reversed the board so its top surface. That would eliminate the small soldering underneath and save space. 2:30 i used blue Press-n-Peel to transfer the traces I designed on to the board and used chemicals to dissolve the rest away. This is dangerous so i am telling you not to do this. 03:33 I realized that since I chose to make this top surface, I could accidentally create a short so I used electrical tape to cover and protect the traces. 03:45 I needed something really small and with tension that could hold the small battery in place. I was able to find a small safety pin and that worked perfectly. 04:05 I first tried to drill this out by hand but it was soooo terrible. I had to use my CNC machine. 05:13 I actually didn't test this first. There was a possibility that the paint could create a short over the pins but I did it anyways and used the tape to protect. Go big or go home. 06:00 Here I show the size. All 4 cartridge games can easily fit on the top of a bottle cap. This making of video is not a step by step but I could do that if you want. It will just be less entertaining and more difficult to follow. Thank you so much for watching!
