Abandoned sections of highway tell us a story about when travel was different before the era of the interstates. Two lane roads, narrow bridges, and roadside businesses harken back to a slower, more romantic time. In this video, I explore three different abandoned sections of Old US 40, one which dates all the way back to the beginning of the US highway system in 1926. Explore old alignments of highway over which thousands of travelers voyaged decades ago which now are left neglected and forgotten, often right next to the newer highway which replaced them. Who might have driven here? Families headed for California to build a new life? Truck drivers transporting goods across the country? Military convoys during World War II?
