In 2017, forest fires swept through British Columbia, destroying one million hectares of land and tens of millions of trees. One Tree Planted is planting 1 million trees in BC to help the land and forests recover. Planting trees in BC is paramount for so many reasons, and tree planting is the best and most efficient way to help the forests recover after wildfires. The story focuses on the Yunetsit'in land that was destroyed in the 2017 Hanceville fire. By planting trees in partnership with the First Nations communities and government in British Columbia, we're hoping to accelerate the rate at which the Douglas Fir forests will recover from these unprecedented fires. By planting one million trees in Canada, we're bringing hope and life to areas that have been decimated by fires. Whilst Canada is the third most forested country, containing more trees than every other country, bar Russia and Brazil, Canada is also one of the world's largest timber producers. Planting trees is essential to ensure that forest cover is restored to parts of Canada where wood is being harvested for timber. Whilst this film focuses on forests burnt by wildfire in BC, reforestation in Canada is absolutely vital to ensure that Canada maintains its forests. Planting trees in BC is particularly important as it is home to a range of unique biospheres and old-growth forest, including the world's largest temperate rainforest. Planting trees is just one way to protect Canada and restore its ecosystems. Protecting trees, particularly old-growth forests, is vital to ensure the health and heritage of Canada's ecosystems. We're also planting millions of trees across California, another region that has been badly affected by wildfires in recent years.
