Bebop recorder player! As house drummer for the legendary Keystone Korner in the 70’s, Eddie was heard regularly with giants like Dexter Gordon, Woody Shaw, Stan Getz, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Freddie Hubbard & so many others. Following the club’s demise, Eddie began presenting his own music in the Eddie Marshall Quintet - while continuing his collaborations with Bobby Hutcherson, Bobby McFerrin, Toshiko Akioshi and others. To say that he was a guiding spirit of the SF jazz scene is an understatement. After years of developing a unique sound night after night in the Bay Area, Eddie's quintet was at its best around the time of this recording. And check out Eddie on recorder!! Tracks 4, 5, 10, & 11. This is the ONLY chance to hear him stretch out and feature himself as a recorder player on four tunes! And - with Kenny Wollesen on drums - he has a full rhythm section backing him. A golden opportunity to hear just how great a recorder player he was - in addition to his masterful drumming, composing and bandleading. Recorded live in concert on a beautiful summer day at Filoli - Woodside, CA. 1992. Note about this CD: Mark Levine and the Jazzschool's Susan Muscarella released this on the BAJA label in 2011. Eddie heard the finished product and loved it! He was particularly pleased about the recorder being in the spotlight. Tragically and unexpectedly though, he died just a few weeks after the release, at a young 73 years of age. Eddie Marshall -- we miss you, Eddie!! Original recording engineered by Ron Davis & produced by Bud Spangler.
