Today we discuss how a variety of tomatoes grown under the same conditions in a single 3 x 6 ebb and flow hydroponic tray system respond to different lighting systems and controls. In this trial, we partitioned the middle of the tray and allowed for an equal number of tomatoes on each side of the partition. The left side of the partition is referred to as the non-pontoon side in that it is lit by a single Inda-Gro Pro-420-PAR induction light. The right side of the partition is referred to as the pontoon side in that the same Pro-420-PAR induction light has been outfitted with our ADD-ON flower and fruit accelerator accessory option that provides a peak 660nm emission for chlorophyll A absorption and mimics sunrise and sunset conditions in nature that enhance flowering. At lights out the 730nm spectra provides a rapid Phytochome triggering for a accelerated Flower Initiation, causing short day plants to react as if the night is to hours longer than it actually is, this allows the daylit period to be extended to 14/10 photoperiods, with species that flower normally with a 12/12 photoperiod.
